Throwback Thursday || Norman Parkinson

Who: Norman Parkinson (1913 -1990)
Occupation: Photographer
Birth Place: London
His Work:   "Parkinson's fame grew once he began working for 'Harper's Bazaar' (from the mid 1930s) and 'Vogue' (from around 1945). Inspired by the work of Hungarian photographer, Martin Munkácsi, who photographed his models in the open air, Parkinson specialised in a joyful, kinetic brand of fashion photography. His models were often outside, playing golf, riding in speedboats, jumping and even, in one famous case, riding an ostrich. To add to the glamour, many of Parkinson's shoots were set abroad, often in Africa or the Caribbean he even moved to live in Tobago in 1963. This lent his work an exotic, jet-set appeal that was very popular in Britain, particularly during the austere 1950s." (np)

Why we love him:  Working for several decades, looking at his photos is like picking up a fashion history book. Truly an TALENTED artist, his black and white photos are jsut as vibrant as his colored ones. His subjects are more than  models they are transformed into art.
Fun Fact: He is known as the Grandfather Of British Fashion Photography

"Audrey Hepburn photographed at “La Vigna”, a charming villa in Albano Laziale, a commune in the Provincia di Roma in August 1955. The province was on the Colli Albani, in the region of Lazio, Italy. This is an outtake from a 1955 shoot for US Glamour magazine. Audrey was wearing an afternoon cocktail dress by Givenchy from his Spring/Summer 1955 collection. The sleeveless dress was made from a light pink grosgrain with white stripes and featured a resin button detail on the front and pleated skirt starting from the hip line. Her pearl bracelet was by Van Cleef & Arpels and her gloves by Crescendoe "

"Audrey was wearing an ensemble by Givenchy from his Spring/Summer 1955 collection. The knitted top and matching straight-line skirt was made from a silk yarn in a shade of light beige. The tunic had buttons in a matching colout down the back and featured a half sash detail with a button on either side. On the front, there were two pocket details on the hip line. Audrey's gloves were by Roger Faré."
